Bug Hike at Otay Lakes County Park

Join us as we explore the Otay Lakes County Park hiking trail! We will view the Otay Lakes Reservoir from multiple viewpoints and learn about the native plants and animals thriving in this protected area. In addition to the trail's views, we will also have the opportunity to explore the park’s native plant garden!
Meeting Location: We will meet in front of the Ranger Station at Otay Lakes County Park, located at 2270 Wueste Road, Chula Vista, CA 91915. See attached map! Look for the large flag with the Trail to Bay Challenge logo!
Driving directions: Take 805 South to the Olympic Parkway exit. Head east on Olympic Parkway and continue for approximately 6.8 miles. Turn right onto Wueste Road and continue for approximately 2.2 miles to Otay Lakes County Park.
Suggested parking: Parking is available within the county park. You will need to purchase a $3 parking permit at the machine as you enter, then park in the upper parking lot. Additional parking is available on the street at no cost, as well as at the Otay Lakes Boating Ramp. If you park on the street or by the boating dock, you will need to walk the rest of the way to join the group.
Restrooms and Water: Restrooms are located near the Ranger Station in the center of the park. The trailhead is straight ahead from the restrooms.
Hike length: This location offers a 2-mile hike.
Trail Difficulty Level: This hike is moderate due to rocky terrain and a 320-foot incline.
Recommended Gear: Water, sunscreen/hat, bug repellent, and walking shoes with proper support.
